I took the kids to McDonald’s this afternoon and guess who stopped in to say ‘hello’? Ronald McDonald! I’ve never met Ronald before. He didn’t sound like the guy on TV though.
I started thinking about how many folks have portrayed Ronald McDonald. I knew that Willard Scott created the Ronald McDonald character. But I didn’t realize how different the character was in the beginning. Here is Willard Scott as the first Ronald McDonald.
Here is an early McDonald’s commercial with Willard Scott. Here he looks a little closer to today’s image of Ronald. This commercial is from the early 70s. I remember having one of these dolls!
I think the doll looks more like the current Ronald McDonald than Willard does…
