Tomorrow is the 8th year anniversary of September 11.
In some ways, it seems like a very long time ago. I’ve had several jobs since then and so many things have changed in my life since then. Back then I was in NYC every week and I spent a lot of time down there. But in many ways it feels like it was only yesterday.
On February 26, 1993 I just left the World Trade Center about 30 minutes before the bomb went off. As for 2001, well I consider myself very fortunate. Which is weird because I feel I have really bad luck at most things. I was at ground zero only a few days after the attack and I can still remember the smell and the taste of the air.
It bothers me how so many people have either forgotten that day or worse, want us to forget. They say we need to “move on”. I will never forget September 11, 2001 no matter how many years have past. Nor will I ever forget how I felt on that day, how lucky I am, and how grateful I am for my family and friends and how grateful I am to those who serve to keep us safe.
Tomorrow, please take a moment to remember those that died eight years ago. Hug your family. Thank those men and women in uniform — military, police, fire, and rescue who have dedicated their lives to protect us and keep us safe.
