Starbucks has announced you will soon be able to find three pre-ground flavored coffee in your local grocery store; vanilla, caramel, and cinnamon. They are calling this new offering “Starbucks Natural Fusions.” If you ask me, they should call it “Starbucks Dunkin In-Fusions”!
Why does Starbucks feel they need to jump onto the “flavored coffee” bandwagon?? Coffee already has a flavor… COFFEE flavor!
The problem is most people don’t actually drink “coffee”. They drink coffee flavored drinks. When you put so much cream or milk in your coffee that the color more closely resembles something you would apply to your ceiling using a paint roller, it is technically no longer “coffee”! And what’s with these people who say “extra-extra-extra sugar” when they order!? How much exactly is “extra-extra-extra”?
Coffee should be hot, black, and no sugar. Of course you need to start with good coffee beans. Try grinding whole roasted beans instead of pouring hot water through that brown sawdust you get over at Dunkin Donuts. The beans should be dark-brown to black in color and you should see the oils on the bean.
Drink it black with no sugar. If you absolutely must cut it, use just 1-teaspoon of sugar. Drink it like this for a month. I guarantee once you drink coffee the way it was meant to be enjoyed, you will never go back to “extra-extra” cream and “extra-extra-extra” sugar…
