It’s February 17. Born on this day… Actor Hal Holbrook is 85. My daughter is going to her first dance tonight. I just took pictures of her in her dress before the dance. She is so beautiful and I almost cried. I feel very old. My son is driving and will be turning 18 soon and my daughter is going to her first real dance. This week I turn another year older. Surprisingly I still have no grey hair. But when I saw my daughter in that dress with her hair all made up, I think felt a few grey hairs coming in. I love this Audi commercial! Makes me want to buy an Audi A3. Oh wait. I already have one! Mad Men Yourself Thanks to Donna for this find! Today is the birthday anniversary of Norman Rockwell; one of my favorite artists. Rockwell, was born on February 3 1894. This is one of my favorite Saturday Evening Post covers. This is from the December 16, 1939 issue. Notice the subtle halo around Santa’s head.
Today is G.I. Joe’s birthday! Joe was introduced by Hasbro on this day back in 1964. G.I. Joe stood for “Government Issue Joe”. There were originally four figures launched; one for each branch of the Armed Forces. I had a few G.I. Joe’s. I wish I still had them. One of my favorites was the Astronaut and Capsule. I just did a quick search on eBay. There is one going for $200! Found this on Youtube. It’s an ad against Internet Censorship in Australia. I just stumbled across this and had to post it! Vertibird was one of my all time favorite toys when I was a kid. It’s a helicopter with real blades that flies in circles around a central hub. The helicopter is attached by a thin metal support rod and a rotating drive cable. From the control panel, the operator can adjust the rotor speed and the flight direction using two levers. It had a hook to pick up various objects. You don’t see them today, probably because they were likely taking kids eyes out. Although you can still get them on eBay. I played with this toy for hours until one day my brother decided to stop on it. I was devastated. Anyway, I stumbled across this 3D Vertibird Simulator this evening. I installed it and have been playing it for a while. Although I have to say I was a lot better at the real thing. |
